A local community physician
and his wife founded Foothill Acres in 1954: it was family
owned and operated for over 48 years. When building #1 was
erected, Foothill Acres was one of the first of new concept
nursing homes and a pioneer in the field of modern health
care. The initial facility, 21 rooms in the South Wing of
Building #1, opened in October of 1954 with 3 residents and
a staff of 12 - At that time, a private room rented for $50
a week! The North Wing of Building #1 was added in 1956. Building
#2 opened in 1958; Building #3 was completed in 1964; several
auxiliary buildings were later constructed creating an interesting,
comfortable campus.
